TAKE THE LIMITS OFF YOUR FUTURE
Today is your day! Get ready for a launch forward and upward. Right now, the Holy Spirit and I will show you how to take the brakes off your life and be catapulted into a bright and amazing future. Let’s see what Paul said in Philippians, chapter one:
Philippians 1:12-14 NLT
12 I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for whichChrist Jesus first possessed me.
13 No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead,
14 I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.
Paul said, “This One Thing”: Then He listed three things. All three must be activated to make it work successfully.
No. 1 – Forsake the PastNo. 2 – Look forwardNo. 3 – Press on to Reach the GoalLet’s look at the first of three things that make up one plan for catapulting you into a bright and amazing future.
No. 1 – Drop The Curse Of Trying To Live In The PastWe are here on earth passing through time. In time, there are three categories: Past, Present, and Future. It is, in reality, impossible to live in the past, just as it is impossible to live in the future. We can only live in the present. If you’re living with resentments, guilt, and regrets then you’re essentially living in the past and you’re not experiencing today.
What do sad people have in common? It seems they have all built a shrine to the past and often go there.
Living in the past makes you a prisoner. “What is it about your past that keeps you tethered?
Regrets?Failures?Sins?Hurts?Successes?Relationships?Whatever …!Living in the past brings a curse on your present and puts the brakes on your future. Living in the past freezes you in time (you do not change, so others do not change, in our mind).
Living in the past means you’re out of control. Since you have no control over the past, if you live there, you are out of control, so you must accept whatever comes along in life. Living in the past may make a good country and western album, it’s a bad strategy for life.
A person can never be successful or happy by sitting around bemoaning or regretting the past once again, Living in the past brings a curse on your present and puts the brakes on your future.
St. Paul said to forget those things that are behind us. In the Greek language, it means “Lose or drop from your thinking or deliberately neglect – forsaking those things which are in the past). Jesus said, “No man having put his hand to the plow and looking back is fit for the Kingdom.”
Quote: “Losers live in the past; Winners learn from the past and enjoyworking in the present toward the future.” ~ Dr. Denis Waitley
Maybe you were a victim of abuse, mistreatment, abandonment, rejection, or betrayal. You think nobody knows how bad you hurt. It DOES hurt.
But Jesus experienced all these things for you (Isaiah 53) and can turn them all around if you will forgive the one who offended or violated you, and press on with Jesus. “One reason God created time was so that there would be a place to bury the failures of the past.”
Doris Wagner, who enjoyed a powerful ministry of deliverance, said that more demonic activity is attracted by developing the victim mentality over something in their past than just about anything else. The past can only be forsaken by reaching forth to what lies ahead in Christ Jesus.
Jephath was an unwanted, child born out of a sin committed by his mother and whoever his father was. He made no excuses, he forgot his past, and went on to become a great leader and hero. (Joshua 11:11)
Peter failed the Lord but bounced back. You can too!
What do sad people have in common? It seems they have all built a shrine to the past and often go there.
When I served as a regent at North Central University, I met Tom Skinner, the former leader of a black gang in Harlem. Trapped by his environment; his future was determined by an attitude passed on to him by others, headed for prison or death, like all the others. Then one day he heard a man on the radio named Billy Graham and prayed the prayer of salvation. He gave up his past and became one of the greatest thinkers of our day, and pressed on to help countless tens of thousands not let their past determine their futures.
ConclusionDon’t let your past dictate what your future will be. Jesus knows how to take your past hurts and messes and turn them into today’s and tomorrow’s miracles! Stay tuned for the next post.
