Review of Duplicity by Nikki Jefford

The Short Version:

I love this series. It’s amazing. It has the perfect blend of magic, betrayal, love, and self-discovery. The characters are realistic and well-defined, and the plot is both fast-paced and well-developed. I was still uncovering secrets at the very end, and everything unfolded in a satisfying way. This is one of those books that will be on my shelf in paperback. I liked it that much.

The Details:

It’s not fair how quickly Jefford hooked me with this series. I have to admit that her beautiful covers play a part in that (I mean, dude, I want to steal her artist), but her story is gripping and her characters enchanting. I just love this series, and I’m kind of sad that there’s only going to be one more book. Especially after reading Duplicity.

After I reviewed the series’ first book, Entangled, Jefford reached out to me and asked her to proofread Duplicity because she said she liked how thorough I was in my review. Of course I proofread it! Though I don’t usually review the books I edit, I was going to read and review this anyway and don’t feel too guilty about bending the rules this once. I usually never do that, and I just wanted to give you full disclosure. But I had to tell you about this book.

In this sequel to Entangled, we get a look at the aftermath of the first book’s supposed happily ever after. Turns out Jefford has a thing for complex characters with tortured pasts. There is plenty of betrayal, revenge, and a heaping pile of witty one-liners.

It’s hard to review a sequel, but I highly recommend you read both books.

The ending to Duplicity was satisfying and left me thinking, awesome, is the third book ready yet? I’m excited for the next one already, and that’s what good books do.

If you want a story filled with magic, humor, betrayal, redemption, and a healthy dose of what it means to be a strong person, I’d recommend this series. Nice work, Jefford.
