For the longest time, I avoided putting reviews up about other books. There's a few reasons behind it.
One, I'm sometimes embarrassed by how slowly I read. Seriously, I have friends who can blink and finish a book. But thanks to some lovely bookish accounts I follow on IG I've learned to accept and embrace my slow reading ways.
Two, back when I was trying to get published (trad style) I remember reading or hearing a piece of advice discussing how writers needed to be careful what they rated and/or reviewed. Also, how writers need to stay out of reader spaces. While I very much agree to respect reader spaces, I think that only applies when wearing my author cap. When I've got my reader cap on, I think it's okay for me to gush about books I enjoyed. I've seen lots of writers who rate and review others and I see plenty who avoid the rating/reviewing. I think we all just have to do what makes us comfortable.
I'm going to be gradually hurling out reviews to books I've read. I'm going to prioritize queer indie book reviews because these are stories that mean a lot to me.
And then I'll probably disappear into darkness and return with another cluster of reviews. lol
Hope you're all having a wonderful Pride!
