I’ve seen this video going around, and figured I would write a little bit on them.


Marine Evacuation Systems (MES) are pretty cool.


When you are that high up (20-50 meters, sometimes 87m (285ft)) in the air the “chute” method is highly effective compared to the more common “ramp” that you might see on cruise ships (similar to on airplanes), which may also use a mini-chute depending on height.


They are practically the only evacuation method that can evacuate over 700 people in less than thirty minutes, and can handle itself in extreme high winds and even rockier waves.


You only need one person to activate, and from the moment you drop the chute and begin inflation it will only take 60-90 seconds. You can evacuate over 200 people in less than ten minutes.


The rafts will begin inflating and can hold up to, and some exceeding, 700 people. I’ve included some additional photos of what those rafts look like:
