My Heart Will Go On

Remember that a fine education can be found in places other than the usual. --Gabrielle Zevin, THE STORIES LIFE OF A.J. FIKRY, a novel

Barbara Reynolds wrote a postcard dated March 20, 1998. She’s in love with her David who is born the same year as me (and Barbara is about 15 years older). Wow! She wrote:

Dear Mike,

Your postcard with your e-mail address is somewhere buried. Here’s mine: HYDAV@pacbell.net  We are up and running.

I got you a DC card. David was born off of the DC Beltway.

Hope to hear from you online.

Love,  Barbara

Now, I had never heard of the DC Beltway before. This made me wonder if I may be missing out on something.

My 2nd cousin, Patty Trujillo-Richfield, wrote to me as well. She lives in Philadelphia, and I want to visit her. I will because Alan went to college there (Wharton School of Business) and he knows the area, so we will go at some point. Patty wrote:

Dear Michael,

I’ve been a little under the weather with sinus problems. It has been raining a lot lately and that doesn’t help. Philly is a bad climate for people with sinusitis.

Well Michael, the last show I saw in NYC was MAN OF LA MANCHA. It was quite a few years ago. When I was working and single, we always used to go on trips to NY, etc. I love musicals. OKLAHOMA is one of my favorites. SOUTH PACIFIC, STATE FAIR and SOUND OF MUSIC, of course...all oldies but goodies.

It is sad that they don't make musicals anymore. Too many violent shows. Am I showing my age?

Anyway, it would be great to see you when you get to this neck of the woods. My parents (Raul G Trujillo b. 1911 d. 1983 and Juanita F Tafoya b. 1919 d. 1995) lived in Long Island for about ten years. I used to visit there every other weekend. It was a quaint area to live in.

Uncle Charles Tafoya (my mom’s brother) sounds great for his age. As he would say, “I’m carrying too many years on my back” but he sounds and looked good the last time I saw him in 1993.

Well Michael, I hope we can finally meet. Maybe we can drive to NY, or you could get here to Philly...whatever. Let me know! Take care!

Love, Patty

I keep hearing this song from Celine Dion because of the TITANIC movie. That TITANIC movie really was a good story. I do love it when I hear this song though. It’s very soothing and dreamy. It’s called MY HEART WILL GO ON:

Every night in my dreams
I see you, I feel you
That is how I know you go on

Far across the distance
And spaces between us
You have come to show you go on

Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more, you open the door
And you're here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on

Love can touch us one time

And last for a lifetime

And never let go till we're gone

Love was when I loved you
One true time I hold to
In my life, we'll always go on

Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on (why does the heart go on?)
Once more, you open the door
And you're here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on

You're here, there's nothing I fear

And I know that my heart will go on

We'll stay forever this way

You are safe in my heart

And my heart will go on and on.

“Every good story has the same shape. The beginning establishes a goal. In the middle we watch the fight toward the goal. The end is what happens when it’s been reached, or when reaching it’s finally failed. The longer the middle, the better the story. The middle is when we still don’t know the outcome. That’s when we care the most about what’s happening.” --Ayad Akhtar, HOMELAND ELEGIES
