People who don’t see themselves in desperate need of grace and mercy usually become self-righteous prigs. They are typically judgmental, impatient, unforgiving, and harsh. Jesus taught this in so many parables and illustrations that it’s really beyond dispute (Matthew 18:21-35; Luke 18:11; Luke 7:47, etc.).
Taking Jesus’ words as authoritative, I’ve become convinced that one of the most crucial skills in marriage is learning to see yourself as a worse sinner than your spouse.
