Revisiting Enough is Enough: Why the Church Must Stop Enabling Abusive Men

In 2016, I wrote a blog post entitled “Enough is Enough” that went viral, with over 100,000 shares on social media. A pastor known for writing on behalf of supporting Christian marriages, calling out abuse, and urging the church to help women out of these marriages rather than keeping them entrapped in them created a stir on both sides of the debate. One national leader told me I would wreck my reputation if I didn’t pull the post. Others said it was about time a pastor spoke out on behalf of women.

I can’t believe it’s been seven years. I’ve written numerous other follow-up blogs on this topic and plan to collect them someday, but since my old blog is no longer active, I’ve decided to revise the original post and place it here on Substack. I’m doing some slight editing and adding some updated thoughts after the text of the original post.

I recently spoke at a long-standing North American women’s conference and was overwhelmed by the quantity and horrific nature of things wives are putting up with in their marriages. Between sessions, I was bombarded by heartfelt inquiries: “What does a wife do when her husband does this? Or that? Or keeps doing this?” It broke my heart. I felt like I needed to take a dozen showers that weekend.

This may sound like a rant, but please hang with me, as I think this conference was a divine appointment. I can’t get this out of my mind.
