So much to do, not enough time to draw!
Hi there!
I've had a pretty crazy month, and I want to share all my craziness with you. Doesn't that sound fun?
1. RIGHT NOW!
2. New Illustrated Journals
3. New Comics
4. Upcoming Events
1. RIGHT NOW!
TONIGHT (Thursday 5/10) I'll be participating in a trunk show at a San Francisco wine bar, The Pour House (1327 Polk St., between Pine & Bush). I'll be there from 6 pm to 8 pm attempting to sell zines and art. If you're around, please come by and say hello.
A Snail Mail Miracle
Did you ever have pen pals? Once upon a time, I used to write to other kids in these pen pal programs, with friends in England, France, Minnesota, Montana...As a kid, all those places sounded equally exotic to me, and to be honest, they kind of still do. Every letter I got was like a gift from the stars--I always wanted to open them elegantly with a letter opener or knife, but I was never able to keep it together. Each of those letters sits in a box in my bedroom, contained in its raggedly torn envelope--proof that I've never had much patience.
Well, the thing is, I wrote/drew a letter for The Rumpus's Letters In the Mail. If you recently met me at MoCCA or TCAF, I might have handed you a letter with your purchase so you already know about this. If not, you can read about it here:
http://therumpus.net/2012/05/this-weeks-letter-2/
Aside from the few I printed up to spontaneously hand out, this letter will NOT be available in published form in the future--you can only get it by subscribing (and they're sending it out this week, so you need to sign up soon!). If you love getting real, honest-to-goodness letters in the mail, then you will love this super-awesome program. For a small fee, the Rumpus mails you a letter almost every week from a whole bevvy of writers, such as Stephen Elliot, Margaret Cho, Janet Fitch, Jonathan Ames...and me!
2. NEW ILLUSTRATED JOURNALS
I've done a lot of traveling for conventions in the past month, which means I've been journaling about it all, and that means YOU can read about my trips in my illustrated journals. They're not drawn very well, and they're not planned out meticulously with story arcs or metaphors, but sometimes they're funny, sometimes they're dramatic, and often they're TMI (sorry). Take a look if you dare:
Columbus, Ohio (SPACE)
http://marinaomi.com/space2012.html
New York, NY (MoCCA Fest) and Toronto, ON (TCAF) - I started adding a lot of color in this one!

3. NEW COMICS
In addition to plugging away at my next graphic memoir (it's about how, at age 22, I decided I wanted to be more Japanese, so I moved to Tokyo and became a bar hostess), I've been doing a whole lot more. There's just not enough time to draw, and drawing's pretty much all I do! What's up with that? I have so many stories I want to tell you. For now, here's what I have for you:
The Rumpus . net
A new Rumpus comic about a guy I used to know (warning: it's a pretty sad comic):
http://therumpus.net/2012/05/smoke-in-your-eyes-inner-beauty/
SF Bay . CA
Comics about my favorite SF haunts at SFBay.ca (I do these every two weeks--check out the one about my dentist, who I love):

Little Heart
I wrote/drew a comic about when I proposed to Gary for the marriage equality comic, Little Heart, which just debuted at TCAF. This book is stunning--although I'm super proud about my submission to this book, there are others that truly humble me. It's one of the most beautiful anthologies I've seen in a long time, and I'm thrilled to be a part of it. And it's for a good cause! Pre-order a copy of Little Heart here:
