12 Friend Recs for 2024

I expect you've seen the pretty template floating around social media. The idea is to get 12 reading recommendations from 12 different friends for the upcoming year and then fill in the template with the book covers. Well, I'm doing that challenge, but not the template. I may tackle Canva someday, but today is not that day.

Here is what my Facebook friends came up with for me:

1. Caitlin: Cassandra in Reverse
2. Marie-Therese: Bloodlands: Europe Between Hitler and Stalin
3. Barbara: The Expendable Man
4. Jewels: Leap of Faith: Memoirs of an Unexpected Life
5. Beth: The Light Pirate
6. Bev: The End of the Alphabet
7. Vanessa: Radicalized
8. Meg: Night Train to Rigel
9. Kristen: To Shape a Dragon's Breath
10. Caty: Homecoming
11. Lucinda: Outback
12. Michael: Creative Deductions: Home Run

Cassandra in Reverse by Holly Smale Bloodlands Europe Between Hitler and Stalin by Timothy Snyder The Expendable Man by Dorothy B. Hughes Leap of Faith Memoirs of an Unexpected Life by Queen Noor The Light Pirate by Lily Brooks-Dalton The End of the Alphabet by C.S. Richardson Radicalized by Cory Doctorow Night Train to Rigel (Quadrail, #1) by Timothy Zahn To Shape a Dragon's Breath (Nampeshiweisit, #1) by Moniquill Blackgoose Homecoming by Kate Morton Outback (DS Walker, #1) by Patricia Wolf Creative Deductions Home Run by Michael Pickard

I will kinda sorta try to read these in order, one per month, but it will also depend on availability. There is at least one that needs to be ordered through inter-library loan, which is unpredictable.

This looks like a great list and I think it will be a lot of fun! I will update in the comments below.

Stina I didn't finish anything until February, but I finished both Leap of Faith: Memoirs of an Unexpected Life and To Shape a Dragon's Breath, recommended by Jewels and Kristen, respectively. Thank you, friends, for two great listens!

This month I will be reading Caitlin's recommendation, Cassandra in Reverse.

Stina I did start Radicalized and am just now getting back to it. Great stuff! I read Outback and really enjoyed it. So far these recommendations have an average star rating of 4.75!

Stina I was able to finish two more books before the end of 2024:
Bloodlands: Europe Between Hitler and Stalin - Brutal examination of the horrors of the early 20th century, but well worth reading.
Homecoming - I'm a big Kate Morton fan, so I was happy to read this dual timeline mystery.

So, six books with an average star rating of 4.66. Great job, friends!! On to finish the other six books in 2025...
