Sandra My dad used to take us to Alioto's back in the late '50s when we were kids! I wonder if it's changed ...

Rue Allyn From what I can gather the Alioto family has a number of eateries on the wharf. The one we went to for dinner is very large with an upscale menu and service.

Sandra Yes, the Aliotos have quite a presence in The City, and on the wharf, especially.
I was specifically thinking back to an event that must have happened in about 1955 or '56 -- I would have been 4 or 5 -- when my father had to be provided a jacket to dine in. The dining room seemed huge, and the formality daunting, even though I was a chef's daughter and spent much of my life in restaurants.
Thanks for the trip down Memory Lane.

Rue Allyn You're most welcome Sandra. I was six or so during my first visit to the city. I don't remember much except the difficulty my Dad had driving the car up and down all those hills. He must have had a stick shift.
