Writing update + what's next

Hey all! It's been a little while since I posted a writing update and I wanted to keep you all informed about what I've been up to.

I actually just got back from a vacation to LA, Hawaii, and Mexico, which is part of the reason I hadn't been posting a lot. I was also super depressed. YAY DEPRESSION VACATION. But also the vacation helped and I had a lot of fun, and I learned that I love Hawaii and also that LA was totally different from how I remembered it being as a kid (literally that was over twenty years ago, god I'm old). So in case you ever wondered why so many books I've written are set in LA... lol.

ANYWAY, the writing stuff!

I am currently serializing the sequel to Quid Pro Quo, which is called Sine Qua Non. While I was looking up a chapter for reference, I saw that it actually became a Top Faved story. So, that's kind of amazing. THANK YOU FOR DOING THAT. I cried a little and then I took a screenshot. It's canon now.

I am still working on Detraction and Wildscape, but in the case of Detraction, I actually plan on rewriting it and fixing up a lot of stuff. What this means is that I'm going to replace a lot of the chapters on Kindle Vella, so if you already paid for the chapters, I believe you'll be able to read the new replaced ones for free because I definitely did that with Raise the Blood when I was serializing that and nobody complained hahaha. I've already drafted up about 20,000 words of additional backstory, and what I want to change is significant enough that it will all probably feel like a whole new story.

Wildscape is taking a while because I'm having to continually reread and research the previous books and take notes. But I do want to update soon! It was very mean of me to end the last chapter with poor Sarah tied to a bed. Nobody tells you that writing sequels to your own work is basically like self-fanfiction.

I have other projects on the horizon as well. Darling, I'm Killed is one I've started working on already, which is going to be a very dark romantasy horror novel. The entire first arc is already drafted out. Love Every Thorn is going to be a gothic romance, like Raise the Blood, and then there's Adeane and Ravina, which is going to be a gothic stepsibling romance.

I've also outlined When You're Sleeping: A Spicy Holiday Stalker Romance, but I think I might actually go insane if I try to release that before the holidays. Watch me release it in May LOL.

Thank you! I am too! I've realized that I have the most fun writing really effed up gothic stuff, so I think that's what I'll probably do going forward. Also reverse-age gap. >:D

mms Thanks for the update, sorry about the depression , that sucks. For what it’s worth your books are awesome and really help me deal with my Depression. Still hate Vella so I am waiting for publication of your newest books. Take care of yourself, the Holidays are hard on us that struggle with depression. Sounds like you have a lot planned, exciting!

Thanks! I know the format isn't for everyone but it's been great for keeping myself on track. The serial format definitely makes me extra accountable because I don't want to let my readers down. ❤️

Plus I get to publish to Kindle when I'm done!

Clarice I'm excited for all of your upcoming works! I'm interested to see what Darling, I'm Killed is going to be like. Will it be more urban dark fantasy or old timey-other world type fantasy? Also thank-you for spoiling us with another dark Gothic with Love Every Thorn! Also I'm glad you had a good vacation and are feeling better. Will you be serializing all of your upcoming works?

DARLING, I'M KILLED is going to be a dark UF with magic and lots of horror. I've had an idea like this burning around in my head for a while but couldn't figure out how to execute it until recently!

OMG I love gothic romance so much. I'm really excited to write LOVE EVERY as soon as I'm in the zone for it. :D

Thank you! It was a really great way to kickstart my brain again. And yes, the plain is to serialize them. It helps keep me accountable when I'm low energy because I'm the sort of person who works better under pressure, and knowing that people have paid for my work makes me work extra hard because I don't want to disappoint my readers, ever. And ngl, getting paid as I write is a really awesome incentive too. :)

Alissa I’m happy to hear that’s what you most enjoy writing as i certainly enjoy reading them. Although, i’ve since learned you can make me enjoy tropes/genres i’ve not previously been that into i.e step-siblings. The serialisation is a great idea and im glad it gives you some income. Also i’ve always wanted to say but cant comment on your stuff for some reason but your tactic of posting lines from your upcoming works is genius! It always gets me super excited for whatever you're working on.

Wow! That is such an amazing compliment! Thank you!!! I'm so happy to hear that, because my goal as a writer is to try to push my own boundaries and play with tropes that I've never tried before (and hopefully do them respect).

You should be able to comment on my status updates(!), but my reviews are friends-only. I REALLY miss talking to some of the people who chose to follow me only, but I was getting harassed pretty regularly on some of my unpopular reviews and for the sake of my own peace of mind, I ended up disabling the feature that allows people who aren't my friends to comment on my reviews. :/

I'm glad you're enjoying the quotes! I have fun posting them and it makes me happy to hear that others enjoy reading them.

Thank you so much for commenting. I always appreciate hearing from you. ♥

Alissa Nenia ✨ I yeet my books back and forth ✨ wrote: "Alissa wrote: "I’m happy to hear that’s what you most enjoy writing as i certainly enjoy reading them. Although, i’ve since learned you can make me enjoy tropes/genres i’ve not previously been that..."

No problem! Ah yes that makes sense about restricting the commenters- you’ve got to do whatever you need to to protect yourself. It sucks goodreads has a friend limit but i enjoy interacting in whatever way i can and it’s not like i get much of a chance to talk to authors of stuff i love normally haha.
It’s been nice to share my appreciation and wish you good luck with all your future projects 😁
