Book Review: Dead Fall by Brad Thor

Published in 2023. Thriller. Scot Harvath has a new mission: to rescue a Ukrainian-American aid worker from the Ukraine. Little is known about her other than she was a lawyer and volunteered to help when the war started—she ended up at an orphanage in Eastern Ukraine, taken over by Russian forces. With minimal information and support, Harvath traverses the war-torn countryside, looking for her. While Scot is busy, the FBI investigates the death of a Russian businessman, living in the U.S. At first, it looks like a suicide, but appearances are deceiving. In another plot line, former Senator Greg Wilson enjoys his role as a lobbyist with all its perks, but he also reports to a Russian handler.

The basic storyline of the war in Ukraine is taken right out of the latest news with some embellishments. The author provides the background for the war, but no solutions. Even Scot Harvath can’t solve this one.

I have enjoyed the author’s books—I love thrillers because they keep me on the edge of my seat. He’s written 23 thrillers so far with Scot Harvath as the main character in 22 of them. Will Scot have to go back to the Ukraine in the future? It’s not over yet.
