The Best Witch Books (That You May Not Know!)The Once and Future Witches by Alix E. This compelling novel intertwines magic, family, and the suffragette movement. Once, witches existed. However, now witchcraft merely manifests as harmless charms and nursery rhymes. If women hope to gain any semblance of power, they must seek it through their right to vote.
However, when the Eastwood sisters, James Juniper, Agnes Amaranth, and Beatrice Belladonna, align themselves with the suffragettes of New Salem, they embark on a mission to revive the forgotten words and ways that could transform the women’s movement into a movement for witches.
My thoughts: I’m intrigued by how this book weaves the fantastical world of witches and a significant historical time for the women’s movement. It’s certainly a read that will draw on your intellect!
Weyward: A Novel by Emilia Hart [image error] [image error]This is the story of three exceptional women from different eras who rely on their resilience in the face of adversity and the transformative influence of nature.
In 2019, Kate seeks solace in Weyward Cottage and discovers hints of a secret from her great aunt’s past linked to the witch hunts of the 17th century.
In 1619, Altha is on trial for the murder of a local farmer. She must harness her abilities to maintain her freedom against the accusations of witchcraft.
Amidst the chaos of World War II in 1942, Violet finds herself trapped in her deteriorating family estate, constrained by societal norms. The only mementos she has are a locket pointing to her mother’s mysterious past.
My Thoughts: While the story involves witches, it doesn’t focus heavily on magic or spells but rather on the personal journeys of these women as they triumph over the misogyny and abuse they face.
Witches of Bone Hill by Ava Morgyn [image error] [image error]This mesmerizing tale of family secrets features the discovery of two young women’s Nordic witch heritage.
Cordelia Bone is about to reach her breaking point with life’s woes when her carefree sister, Eustace, reveals that their mysterious great aunt has passed away. The sisters travel to a small town in Connecticut to handle the estate, not realizing what they’re about to encounter.
The old Victorian mansion houses a haunting family secret, the truth about their mother’s fate, and an ancient enemy lurking in the shadows for generations.
My thoughts: This book has the feel of Practical Magic and may be the perfect read for the spooky season!
Playing the Witch Card by KJ Dell’Antonia [image error] [image error]Touted as “Gilmore Girls meets Practical Magic,” this bewitching book entertains with three generations of magical happenings, two troublesome ex-partners, and a magical Tarot deck.
Although she graciously takes over her grandmother’s bakery in Kansas following her departure from a cheating husband, Flair adamantly refuses to embrace her Nana’s fortune-telling side job. Her bakery is strictly free from any magic.
However, everything changes when a batch of innocent Tarot card cookies, baked by Flair for the Halloween celebration in town, unleashes the power of the family deck.
My thoughts: Read it if you prefer a lighthearted book with a witchy theme. With its engaging characters and captivating storyline, this book will keep you turning pages!
The Silver Witch by Paula Brackston [image error] [image error]After the sudden death of her husband, Tilda Fordwells moves into a peaceful Welsh cottage in the hopes of finding solace. However, instead of finding peace, Tilda discovers that she possesses a dormant power and a connection to the lake near her home.
Centuries ago, on the same lake, a witch named Seren lived. She was both respected and feared by the community due to her unique appearance.
Through her exploration of the lake’s magic, Tilda crosses paths with Seren, the woman she had begun seeing in visions ever since she arrived.
My thoughts: The Silver Witch is the third and final book in the Shadow Chronicles Series by The New York Times bestselling author Paula Brackston. Readers of the series can’t get enough of the intriguing characters and spellbinding storytelling.
