Alternative #1: Hire an expensive marketing agency to do the marketing for you.
For a reputable agency, you’ll spend between $3,000 and $5,000. This could be by month or by package. But what you’re buying is their time … not their results. They will promise to get you placements on blogs, or podcasts, but this may or may not pan out. And, once their set number of hours has been consumed, you’ll have to re-up your investment or walk away.
I did this and got no return on my investment. They even made mistakes they were unable to remedy!
Alternative #2: Take a book marketing course online.
Although you can find some of dubious quality for a little as $20, most courses worth their salt are in the $297 to $499 range. But they either teach one specific technique with no guarantee that it is the right technique for you or your audience, or they are a general “be a book marketer” course that gives you the foundations, but nothing more.
Alternative #3: Buy and read a library of books about book marketing.
If you purchase 20 books averaging about $15 a piece, you’ll spend about $300. Then you’ll need to read all those books, digest the information, and then apply the principles to your book. And you’ll have to do this all on your own.
So if you want to grow your business with your book and you chose these alternatives regularly every month, you’d end up spending anywhere from $3,600 to $60,000 per year on your book marketing.
