Jaane Jaan Trailer Intrigues With Desi Spin on ‘The Devotion of Suspect X’

Netflix India dropped the official trailer for Sujoy Ghosh’s “Janne Jaan”, which is the official Bollywood adaptation of Keigo Higashino’s popular novel “The Devotion of Suspect X”. Set against the smoky mountains of Kalimpong, a hill station in West Bengal, the thriller stars Kareena Kapoor, Jaideep Ahlawat and Vijay Verma as the primary characters. The trailer starts with a modern rendition of the 1969 hit song “Aa Jaane E Jaan”, a cabaret number sung by Lata Mangeshkar and composed by the iconic duo composed by duo Laxmikant–Pyarelal.

Kareena Kapoor plays the beautiful Maya, who is a primary suspect in a murder case according to cop Karan (Vijay Verma), who happens to know Maya’s neighbor Naren (Jaideep Ahlawat). An intriguing web of deception and seduction unfold in the teaser, without giving much of the plot away. Except for some of the annoyingly dimly lit shots, the trailer promises to be give viewers a thrilling murder mystery. A few scenes of Kareena Kapoor are very reminiscent of her usual bubbly roles, like Geet from “Jab We Met”, but since “Jaane Jaan” looks more of a neo-noir thriller, it remains to be seen if we’ll get to see Kareena in different shades too.

Keigo Higashino’s novel “The Devotion of Suspect X” is a captivating blend of mathematics and murder. The book follows a brilliant detective who becomes entangled in a murder mystery involving his former lover, yielding a complex tale of devotion, obsession.
