I haven't posted a writing update since May, so I thought it would be nice to do another one to keep you all updated on my current projects now that I am back in my writing groove and have had some time to breathe after finishing
Raise the Blood.
I am currently serializing TWO books,
Detraction and
Wildscape. Both of these books have been chilling on my backlist, unworked on for years, so it feels great to be finally making some progress with them. In the case of DETRACTION, some people have been waiting almost ten years. WHOOPS. These are being posted to Kindle Vella, which IS US-only at the moment, but both of these will be moving to Kindle Unlimited shortly after in revised and expanded form.
DETRACTION is a fractured retelling of the ballads of Reynardine and Tam Lin. It starts in the 1970s and ends in the late 90s, and takes place in both our world and the world of faerie. I already like what I have, but I'm planning some significant additions and changes for when it's moved to Kindle. This hero is probably one of my nicer ones. He's not quite evil, just damaged and chronically misunderstood. The story is about 33% complete.

https://www.amazon.com/kindle-vella/e...WILDSCAPE is the fifth (fifth?? really?) book in my Horrorscape series, but this book focuses on Gavin's younger brother, Luca. His love interest is a true crime podcaster who is kind of gloomy and morbid and a little naive. They meet on a cruise to Mexico, which she has gone on to research a (fictional) murder committed by a girl avenging her dead best friend. Chaos ensues. And yes, there are cameos of characters from previous books. The story is about 15% complete.

https://www.amazon.com/kindle-vella/e...I've added some new books to my author list that I want to work on, the newest being
Love Every Thorn and
Sine Qua Non. LOVE EVERY THORN is going to be a gothic romance with a villainous hero and I already have a little bit plotted. I actually have about 10,000 words written of SQN and a little bit of a plot outline. SQN is a sequel to
Quid Pro Quo, as looking at the reviews made me realize I forgot to tie up a few loose ends. It probably isn't going to be as long as the original but I said that about
Escape, and it ended up being the longest book in the series, so you clearly can't trust me. I'm an unreliable narrator.
Other books I intend to work on soon-ish are
Adeane and Ravina and
Evergloom. I have most of the outlines done for these but they ended up having some issues with their storylines that are going to require major overhauls and plot fixes. I also want to work on
The Flesh Pavilion but I don't have the time to sit down and really work on a high fantasy novel at the moment.
Do I know what I'm going to work on next? No. Am I excited for whatever it's going to be? Most definitely. I basically write based entirely on vibes and tears at the moment, so whatever is causing me the most panic is the book that gets written. And by the way, if you're still reading at this point, thanks so much for checking out my work. It makes my day every time to hear from readers. When I first started publishing for profit over ten years ago, it felt mind-blowing that I could actually have an audience who would pay to read me. The shine of that still hasn't chipped away, even now.
So thank you for being here and for reading my books. ♥
