Grief is Forever

"Losing someone you love will break your heart in many ways. The pain is forever, and you will ask yourself, how will you ever survive this unbearable sadness? When will you start healing? So many questions and no answers because everyone is different.

People say the pain gets more manageable, the anger leaves your heart, but your inner self is in tears most days. Your life changes, and it will take years to stop staring at that door or the smile you miss the most, those sweet moments, the embrace you will never feel again. You realize those feelings are just memories.

YOU DON'T LIKE WHAT YOU SEE when you look in the mirror, and you don't look too often because you recognize yourself as another woman. Your eyes are sad, your hair is disheveled clothes are messy, but that's okay. That's the new woman, the one that lets everything hang out. Alone in the dark place called grief.

Picture her punctured wound bleeding and the loss of a loved one; some people will not understand, only those who have experienced this pain. Then, some days, your smile is bright like a sparkling star, and you see miles away, called the future.

A white feather blows in your direction, warming your heart; it's a good day. Every time this happens, you look up and hold your damaged heart; a broken piece returns to the empty place like a puzzle and another element. It's called healing.

We have to remember time is ticking, and we are here for a moment. We are on borrowed time, so we must make the best of tomorrow. If we get the chance." – Martha Perez
