I used to read books to the last page. Then something happened in my 20s. I was reading a book that just frustrated me to no end. It would get interesting, then stop. Believe it or not, I got 90 percent of the way through the book, one chapter to go, and I gave up. I didn’t care how it ended.
After that, I was liberated. Pleasure reading was meant to be a pleasure.
I say, if you’re not enjoying a book, then stop reading it. There are so many good books out there. Why waste time on books you don’t enjoy?
Now I understand why I give up on books. If an author doesn’t do the work to structure the story to keep my interest or give me a reason to care about what happens to a character, then I’m not going to finish the book.
So how about you? Do you read every book to the last page? Or do you give up after a certain point?
I would love to hear in the comments below.
