Here is a short list of some of my favorite books over the years—and why I like them.
I've read each of these books multiple times.
1) The Hobbit - the idea of the average ordinary person (even if a hobbit) being swept up into an adventure is very appealing
2) The Lord of the Rings - creates a detailed and believable world and compelling characters
3) Bright Lights Big City - the book that combines pain and humor in a compassionate way
4) The Secret History - this book is as lovely to read in terms of expression, and a fascinating look at what killing someone does to people
5) The Historian - A compelling supernatural mystery spread out over several timelines
6) Special Topics in Calamity Physics - like the Secret History it has a group of compelling young people involved in murder but also adds in a larger conspiracy
I would love to know what your favorite books are in the comments below.
