Life Tools: Give Yourself Time to Restore

I don’t know about you, but culturally I come from workaholics. We are constantly working. Some people vacation every year, even if it’s a staycation. Others never truly take a vacation which is easy when you are continually virtually connected. I would go years before finally taking a vacation.

By the way, a staycation isn’t just using vacation time at home to do tons of housework, lawn work, and repairs. In the tv show Corner Gas, the character Brent would go on a vacation by announcing he’s going and go the patch of grass opposite the gas station, setting up a lawn chair, and sitting there with sunglasses, drinks in a cooler, and sends postcards to his friends saying he’s in Aruba. He closes his eyes to one place and imagines another. It is his form of staycation to destress and restore.

It’s important to take time to restore your energy, not only on a yearly basis but every day. I know it is tough with families and/or work obligations. I know that it’s easy to get rundown. When you’re exhausted, it is difficult to help others and do your best in things that matter.

Give yourself the time to restore. Relax. Breathe. You are worth it.
