How does Bye 9 To 5 help you make money?

The main goal of Jordan Mackey’s training is to help you earn money from YouTube without showing your face. So the idea is to create, monetize and automate a faceless YouTube channel.

YouTube automation is when you utilize software or hire people to automate specific tasks related to managing a YouTube channel. The most common examples are uploading videos, managing comments, creating video thumbnails, and scheduling content.

Jordan advises that your YouTube channel focus on a single niche and adheres to one of four channel types…

List Channels
Usually feature Top 5 or Top 10 lists. Tough to monetize these channels with affiliate marketing or sponsorships, but you can earn ad revenue and eventually sell the channel.
Personal Brand
This kind of channel gains more trust, and is therefore more suitable for selling or promoting products. However, it’s harder to choose adequate topics with them or post often.
Combination
You can combine the previous two and have the best of both worlds. You wouldn’t have to show your face, yet you can still pick viral topics and sell products.
Compilations / Reposted Content
These are easy to pick topics and pump content for, but it’s hard to get and keep them monetized. You’d basically download multiple YouTube videos and combine them into a single video to avoid copyright strikes.

Out of the four types, Jordan’s training seems to focus on compilations the most, giving many tips on how to edit existing videos with free software and stitch clips together.

As stated on the sales page…

The systematic roadmap is simple – all you need to do is find interesting videos, mash them together, make small tweaks, upload it, and use the correct title, thumbnail, keywords, and other algorithm secrets and do it the right way. If you do that, you crush it on YouTube over and over again.

This seems to work well for some students, but I’ve also seen many in the private Facebook group voicing their complaints/concerns about copyright strikes.

So be aware of that risk if you’re going to follow Jordan’s recommendations. It’s also worth familiarizing yourself with YouTube’s fair use policy. Though from what I’ve seen, YouTube’s fair use and copyright rules do not seem to be applied consistently

To make money with your YouTube channel, you will first need to get it monetized so you can put ads on your videos.

Jordan further explains on the sales page…

[…] you need to learn the secrets for crushing the YouTube algorithm, how to make your videos go viral, how to rank your videos in the search results, how to make YouTube suggest your videos, how to create engaging thumbnails, how to pass monetization review quickly, how to study your analytics and make necessary changes, the secret to earning 10 times more money than other YouTube channels, how to raise your CPM, how to place the ads on your video, how to automate, outsource, and scale your channels, and much more.

Many of these things are simple, but doing them all correctly in the right order makes all of the difference between a channel that makes an absolute killing, and a channel that makes nothing.

It looks like Bye 9 To 5 previously used to revolve around Shopify dropshipping and personal branding. Now those courses are just bonuses added on to the main YouTube training, but they seem to be long abandoned.

The video materials inside of the Shopify dropshipping course suggest it was filmed in late 2017 and hasn’t been updated since.

So I’d advise against following Jordan’s recommendations in those older bonus courses.

Bye 9 To 5 sells itself as a platform for people from all walks of life that would like to make money via YouTube…

The best part about this program is that it is built for both beginners and advanced YouTube channel creators! We cover everything step-by-step A-Z, from creating your GMail account and YouTube channel to all of the advanced strategies and techniques.

Having seen inside the training, I tend to agree.

But given that automation is a key part of the training, it helps if you have some experience with outsourcing tasks and building a team. IMO, that’s the part of the training that most people are likely to struggle with.

It’s complicated.

First of all, even though Bye 9 To 5 is primarily a YouTube course, Jordan’s official Instagram profile has twice as many followers/subscribers as his YouTube channel…

So that’s a bit weird.

But apparently Jordan owns much bigger YouTube channels as well.

He mentions numerous times in his videos that he has grown a channel to more than one million subscribers.

Here’s one video where he does that (around the 30-second mark)…

However, I never managed to find that channel, and Jordan clearly doesn’t want people to find it…

Jordan apparently has at least 2 more channels with 100,000+ subscribers.

And while his reasoning for keeping these channels secret makes some sense, IMO it makes it harder to trust him and verify that he walks his talk.

Moving on, a YouTuber named Scott Shafer has a video criticizing Jordan Mackey and accusing him of being a “fake guru”…

Some of Scott’s criticisms seem silly to me – eg. Jordan shooting a video in an empty room or sounding nervous on camera. But from the 8:30 to 14:00 mark he outright accuses Jordan of lying about his YouTube earnings in 2017.

Jordan posted a video response to Scott’s criticism, showing right away that he did indeed earn $60,000+ from YouTube – or at least from Google – that year…

Scott responded to that response by pointing out some more holes and oddities in Jordan’s story…

The back and forth is all quite messy and confusing, but to me the part that stands out most is at the 14-minute mark of Jordan’s video, where he says…

If something ever happened to me like did happen in 2017, where all five of my [YouTube] channels or my Adsense account gets screwed for some reason, gets deleted, instead of having zero income now I will have courses as an income at least.

Jordan is admitting there that he’s had multiple YouTube channels deleted. And it sounds like one of the main reasons he sells his course is because he’s concerned that his YouTube channels might get deleted again in future

Scott addresses this at the 12-minute mark of his second video…

I don’t know why anyone would take advice from someone who is constantly getting his channels deleted. No legitimate YouTuber has their channels deleted unless they’re doing something illegal or going against YouTube’s terms of service.

I tend to agree with Scott on this point, and it is an important point. 

Personally I would be hesitant to learn YouTube automation from a guy who has had multiple channels deleted and seems concerned that it can happen to him again at any moment.

Are Bye 9 To 5 students getting results?

Browse through the official Bye 9 To 5 websites – and the private Facebook group – and you’ll find a decent amount of student testimonials and success stories.

However, when I dug a little deeper it became apparent that many of those successful students have had channels deleted and demonetized multiple times…

My impression from all this is that Jordan’s training can be effective, but a lot of his students seem to run into trouble with YouTube and get their channels deleted or demonetized.

So just be aware of that risk if you sign up to Bye 9 to 5 and try to implement the training.

How much does Bye 9 To 5 cost?

For access to the Bye 9 To 5 training, there are two options:

$397 one-time3 monthly payments of $165

The latter adds up to a total price of $495.

You get lifetime access with either option.

In terms of additional costs, Jordan often recommends paid software, as well as outsourcing lots of the day-to-day tasks, in order to scale your YouTube automation business. You can of course use the free software he recommends and do all the work yourself, but expect slower progress that way.

Other than outsourcing tasks – for which Jordan recommends using Fiverr and Upwork – here are the main additional costs (again, these are all optional)…

Jordan recommends GoDaddy for both a domain (starting at $0.99) and hosting (starting at $5.99/month). You’d mainly use the website for affiliate marketing off of YouTube.Bye 9 To 5 Discount?

I’ve searched high and low for a discount or coupon code for Bye 9 To 5, but have yet to find mention of one anywhere. However, there is a place to enter a discount code on the Bye 9 To 5 checkout.

So it looks like you’ll have to pay the full price if you want access.

Refund Policy

The sales page for Bye 9 To 5 specifies a 120-day action-based money-back guarantee…

[…] we are giving you a full 120 days to watch the training and try out what you learn, and if you don’t make the money back you spent on this course we will refund your money 100% as long as it’s within 120 days. This is action based, meaning you must take action and show us you’ve taken action. First, You must watch through every video in the program in its’ entirety. You must show us your course work, which includes: your niche research, keyword research, and video topic research, you must create a channel and create and upload at least 60 videos that follow what we teach, and you must prove to us that you fully implemented the system taught in the program and you didn’t at least make back the money you spent on the course. 

I’m not a fan of action-based refund policies, and would much rather see a no-questions-asked policy here.

And given that they require you to have created and uploaded “at least 60 videos” in 120 days, it sounds like it’s really hard to qualify for a refund

That said, I’ve yet to see anyone reporting issues getting a refund on their purchase of Bye 9 to 5.

How is Bye 9 To 5 structured?

Here’s what the training looks like once you log in and open one of the lessons…

The core Bye 9 To 5 training, called Tube Monetization & Automation Program, is broken up into 15 modules that have 110+ video lessons. I found the videos rather concise and easy to follow.

Most of the videos are slides and/or screencasts where Jordan walks you through the training.

Although I find Jordan’s approach to YouTube somewhat questionable, the training looks comprehensive enough. You’ll learn a lot about YouTube itself and creating YouTube content, as well as SEO and affiliate marketing.

It’s unclear how often the core training is actually updated.

Bye 9 To 5 also has the occasional bonus PDF file here and there, as well as a few bonus courses. Some of the bonus courses are obsolete – eg. the Shopify Dropshipping Course was filmed in late 2017 – but were apparently included due to demand from Jordan’s students.

Old training on selling courses on Udemy and Teachable.

Finally, there’s a private Facebook community for Bye 9 To 5 students that has 6000+ members. Inside you’ll find success stories and student questions, but also many new students just saying hi.

Honestly though I expected to see more activity for a group with so many members…

Browsing through the group myself, I also saw quite a few posts and comments from students that didn’t receive any replies from Jordan or his group admins

Seems the core training is rarely updated.Jordan Mackey and his methods are somewhat controversial.Claims YouTube automation is an easy way to make money online.Quite a few students have had their YouTube accounts deleted or demonetized.Private Facebook group not as active or helpful as expected.Sounds really difficult to qualify for a refund.Other things you should knowThere is also what Jordan claims to be a free version of the training, but it’s actually just a single, long video. It’s mostly filled with testimonials – some of which are shown multiple times – various paychecks, and just a glimpse at what you’d do as a student. Should you join Bye 9 To 5?

I’m a bit torn on this one.

If your goal is to build a successful faceless YouTube channel, then you’ll likely get a lot out of the Bye 9 to 5 training.

However, IMO the methods Jordan teaches are a bit risky, and it’s clear that quite a few of his students run into issues with copyright strikes, or getting their channels deleted or demonetized.

Given that, I’d advise carefully reading up on YouTube’s guidelines and terms of service before following any of the recommendations within Jordan’s training.

Then, abide by the wisdom of Bruce Lee…

Absorb what is useful, discard what is not, add what is uniquely your own.
