Friday Creature Feature~Gancanagh


Finally, the breathing of the woman lying beside me becomes slow and steady. Beneath the satin sheets her chest rises and falls in the rhythm of sleep. Careful not to disturb her, I disentangle myself from the sheets and ease off the bed. A floorboard creaks and her eyes flutter beneath her lids, causing me to freeze. But that tiny movement is the only one she makes. The toxins have her completely in their thrall. She won’t awaken for some time.

Despite the sheen of sweat and toxins on my own...
