State of the TAM - 28th March
Not me, I’ve been at sea level all week. From Murlough Bay up to Glenariff…that has the most awesome walk along the coastline. I did get my ticket to GRL though! Despite me getting my times confused and only realizing at 3:30 that I needed to get my butt and my credit card to a laptop!
HOWEVER! Holly Oliver has been up to loads this week, with the launch of her brand new novel, Scars of the Soul. It is out today, so go and check it out! It has cats and pyschics and crime, so can’t go wrong there!
So, I am doing a wee interview and sharing an exerpt from Holly’s novel today! However, I know you guys would miss…

Scars of the Soul is a standalone story set in the same world as Shadows of the Soul. While you might meet old friends, reading the earlier book is unnecessary to enjoy this story.
Neo grapples with his psychic abilities and has been drifting in a sea of chaos for as long as he can remember. Studying toward his Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology, he’s tried to move on with his life. However, he still finds part of himself stuck on an unsolved case from a decade ago, lost in memories and hounded by the ghosts of his past. When a young woman appears in his vision, he can’t shake the feeling that she’s important.
But can he find someone who believes him?
Jackson, a lynx shifter and detective on the Paranormal squad, is begrudgingly still on leave from work after his accident a few months ago. To pass the time, he throws himself into a case that has plagued him for a decade, the one that got away. When an unwelcome blast from the past might hold the key to moving the case forward, Jackson is forced to take the gamble of his life to see if this ‘psychic’ is the real deal.
Jackson’s firm bet is on NOT!
When they meet for the first time, Jackson and Neo are more surprised than anyone to find out the Fates have deemed them a match. This must be a joke, surely.
Can these two scarred souls find peace?
Come along for the ride as they hunt for the elusive Desert Rose Killer and see if they can get their HEA despite how much they think they hate each other.
Trigger warnings: This story contains an on-page depiction of a suicide and descriptions of murder scenes.
Aside from that, this is a love story intended for adults. Coarse language, some violence, and intimate situations between two consenting adults will be found between these pages.
Enjoy!

Bio
Hi, I'm Holly, and I live in a small beach town in New Zealand. I juggle many hats, mum, wife, nurse, educator, and author, but in truth, I love nothing more than to curl up with a good book and escape the washing pile (that never ends). Aside from books, I also love coffee, yoga, and houseplants.
I write sweet and sometimes sassy or suspenseful stories about sexy men who really don’t look well-suited on the surface but throw fate into the mix, and things get interesting. Sometimes with a touch of magic or a dash of mystery; I'm not confined to a set genre. I want to write them all!
Stay tuned to see what I get up to next.

1: What is the first thing you TRIED to write (mine was a story about an orphaned pig adopted by ballerinas)
From memory, my Mum would have to correct me if I’m wrong, but I wrote Fairy Alphabet books from A-Z with names, descriptions, and stories. I’ve always been fascinated by magic. But my first full story was about a witch with no friends who finds a frog, LOL.
2: What part of this book tickled you so much you giggled to yourself?
There’s a scene where Jackson and Neo need to ‘reconnect’, and they end up trying to have fun times in the car. It’s awkward and messy and made me giggle as I wrote it and every time I ran through to edit.
The other would be the banter between Jackson and Max when Jackson bolts from Neo’s house the first time they meet.
3: Did you lose any part of the book in edit that you really wanted to keep?
I cut a flashback scene which I loved, where Jackson and Randall (a secondary character) were arguing about the proper way to make a coffee--I’m a huge coffee buff--It was sweet and funny but sadly added nothing to the plot.
4: What is your favorite 'nothing is working right and I'm sulking' comfort food?
When I need comfort food, my go-to is a chicken and cheeseburger from the fish and chip shop down the road from me. And I have a plentiful supply of KitKats in the drawer next to my bed 😊
5: Tell us something about you and your characters that we don't know?
Something about me? I lived in a house bus for a year with my hubby, cat, and four kids. I’m obsessed with stationery and have way more notebooks than is healthy, LOL.
Jackson: Eats an unhealthy amount of candy.
Neo: is allergic to avocado.
6: What is the most unhelpful way you would describe this book to someone?
Neo: I have visions.
Jackson: What a crock of shit.
Fate: Haha, let the fun begin.

Jackson slumped onto his ass, perching himself on the sidewalk edge and looking into space. Max must have decided to give him a minute, but the relentless onslaught from his lynx sounded like it was just getting started.
Finally, Max sat beside him, banging their knees together to get Jackson’s attention.
“Jacks, how long have we been friends?”
Jackson snapped his head up to look at Max. “What’s that got to do with anything?” Jackson snapped.
“I’m hoping if I can remind you how much I care about you, it might help you hear me a bit better.”
“I’m listening.”
“He’s your mate.”
It wasn’t a question, but Jackson answered him as if it was, with a clipped, “Yep, but it has to be a mistake.”
“Oh, yeah. Since when did the Fates make mistakes?”
Jackson sighed. “It has to be a mistake…”
“And if it’s not?”
“It is. I’m sure of it.” But, despite saying the words with genuine conviction, Jackson knew it was all utter bullshit. He was screwed! The Fates were fucking with him, and his lynx hated him. And the cherry on top? Neo Jordan Parker was a psychic and his mate. So what if Jackson had done his homework on the guy before agreeing to meet up, he’d been curious and bored. And so what if he was the best-smelling and most attractive man Jackson had ever seen. And did it really make any difference that Jackson’s cock was still rock hard just at the mere sight of the man? Nope, not to Jackson. It didn't matter a damn!
Max sat silently beside him, their knees still knocking against one another as Jackson fumed and tried to block out his lynx’s tyrannical rantings.
“So just let me get this straight. He’s definitely your mate?”
“Yep.”
“You don’t think that’s true?”
“Can’t be true.”
“And you’re going to what? Sit down here until he and Darius finish the profile? How do you expect them to do that without you?”
“If I go back up there, I’m gonna end up doing something that both Neo and I will live to regret.”
“You mean you’ll tear his clothes off and mark him as yours for all eternity.”
Jackson threw him a dirty look.
“But you’re not mates…” Max teased.
“Oh, fuck off, will you!”
