And I get it, it can be challenging to maintain focus and discipline when writing a book, especially when dealing with the other demands and distractions that busy entrepreneurs and executives face.

Step 1. Clarify your brand promise.
Step 2. Identify your goals.
Step 3. Pinpoint the pains, desires, or aspirations of your audience that match up to the first two steps.
Step 4. Develop a book idea that fulfills the promise, takes you closer to your goals, and speaks to your ideal clients’ pain, desire, or aspiration.
Step 5. Draft a well-researched outline for your book.
