I recently finished my fifth reading of this brilliant novel and decided that a blog post was the best way to express why it's one of my top five all-time favorite novels.
So, If you're looking for a hauntingly good time, look no further than Nita Round's novel "The Ghost of Emily Tapper." This paranormal mystery and romance will keep you clued to the pages until the end.
Simply, I love this captivating book's characters, mood, setting, and writing style.
The Characters
A compelling part of this book is its well-crafted characters. From the strong-willed protagonist, who inherits a mysterious legacy from her aunt to the enigmatic ghost of Emily Tapper herself, each character is fully fleshed out and intriguing in their own right. Our protagonist, Maggie Durrant, is a complex character who struggles with her past and present. She's haunted not only by the ghost of Emily Tapper but also by memories of her deceased parents. Emma Blewitt is another fascinating character who brings lightness to the story with her wit and charm. As the two families at the story's center come together to face an uncertain and possibly fatal future, you'll find yourself rooting for them every step of the way.
The Mood
"The Ghost of Emily Tapper" has an eerie and foreboding mood that permeates every page. From the creaking old house where much of the action takes place to the misty moors outside, there's a sense that something otherworldly lurks just around the corner. And when strange things start happening to our protagonist, it becomes clear that she's not alone in this creepy world. The tension builds throughout the story as we learn more about Emily Tapper's tragic past and how it connects to Maggie's family history.
The Setting
Speaking of setting, Nita Round does an excellent job of bringing her fictional world to life. Whether it's describing the crumbling old mansion where our protagonist inherits her aunt's legacy or painting vivid pictures of the misty moors outside, you'll feel like you're right there alongside her characters. Magwood Hall is as much a character as any other in this book: its dark corners hide secrets, while its grandeur starkly contrasts its decaying state.
The Writing Style
Finally, Nita Round's writing style is impeccable. Her prose flows effortlessly across each page while still packing an emotional punch when necessary. She has a talent for creating beautiful imagery without being overly descriptive or flowery; instead, she lets us see through her characters' eyes as they experience their surroundings firsthand.
"The Ghost of Emily Tapper" is a must-read for anyone who loves paranormal mysteries with strong characters and vivid settings! So curl up with your favorite beverage and prepare to be transported to a world where ghosts and curses are all too real.
Reviews like this are a perfect reward for all the work that goes into writing a book. It is especially lovely when all the strands of a story, place, people, and trials, all come together and are appreciated.
