Jamming: Get Ready to Jam
“The human voice is the most extraordinary and complex of musical instruments, in which, contrary to what most people think, the actual quality of the instrument is far less important than the intelligence...of the person using it.” --Javier Marias, THE MAN OF FEELING I’ve always loved that song by Bob Marley and The Wailers called JAMMING. It soothes my mood every time I hear it. Lately, there’s a new song playing called FLY LIKE AN EAGLE by some artist named SEAL. I kind of like that one, too. It allows me to imagine an eagle flying; to fly with determination and magical adventure. It’s how I wish to live my life.
I wanted to see a movie based on a true story called PREFONTAINE, but Alan and I never managed to see it. It featured a new actor named Jared Leto. It was about a long-distance runner. It sounded inspiring. I still hope to see it eventually.
We did see a very funny one though called MOTHER, starring Debbie Reynolds and Albert Brooks. We laughed, especially at the part where she kept ice-cream in her freezer for over a year and it started to grow excess ice.
My mom’s first cousin, Selena M Leyba-Byers wrote to me from Santa Fe, NM in response to my Family Tree project. She provided most information that I already knew except for the revelation of her six children. The family continues to grow and grow. Who knew? There’s definitely some potent sperm going around. Ha-ha.
Alan and I spent a good hour walking the beach on the 8th. I snapped a number of Polaroids of us on the beach—just being silly. I liked how there was a cool breeze. I was able to wear a jacket for a change.
I received an interesting letter from another cousin in Alburquerque, NM. His name is Roy Quintana. I found it kind of cool because I went to high school with a guy named Ray Quintana. Maybe we were related somewhere down the line. Alas, Roy’s letter was interesting as he wrote about his first wife who was from England and her surname was Bloomfield. In any case, I’m happy when a relative—or even a close friend---writes to me. They took the time, and I cannot expect miracles.
