Lord of the Liminal Space: Multiplier

I’m in a liminal space in 2023 – that means it’s an in-between space arching over what was and what will be. As I recover from my divorce in 2022 and many other losses, I’m seeing this year as a liminal space, and I am acknowledging God as the Lord over it all.

This year, I’m starting something new: an unedited prayer poem every day, written in just five minutes. I’m writing it based on the names of God I find in my One Year Bible readings.

Lord of the Liminal Space – Multiplier

Based on this reading from the One Year Bible.

 

O Lord

you felt sorry

for the hungry crowd

and took a child’s lunch

thanked the Father for it

blessed it

tore it into pieces

with your own hands

and suddenly

the food multiplied

into a huge feast

for thousands.

 

All ate their fill.

No one left hungry.

Every man

woman

and child

was satisfied.

 

In this in between space

where I only have so much

to offer

far less than what is enough

in time

energy

finances

patience

hope

may you multiply

the little I have

to feed my dreams

for what is ahead

and give me glimpses

of the satisfaction

to come

the blessings so vast

there are twelve baskets

full of leftovers

proof of your abundant

goodness

and full knowledge

of my deepest hunger.
