Lord of the Liminal Space: Heart Maker

I’m in a liminal space in 2023 – that means it’s an in-between space arching over what was and what will be. As I recover from my divorce in 2022 and many other losses, I’m seeing this year as a liminal space, and I am acknowledging God as the Lord over it all.

This year, I’m starting something new: an unedited prayer poem every day, written in just five minutes. I’m writing it based on the names of God I find in my One Year Bible readings.

Lord of the Liminal Space – Heart Maker

Based on this reading from the One Year Bible.

 

O Lord

I don’t want my heart

to be far from you

or my worship to be a farce.

I want the words of my lips

to match a grateful

joyful

hopeful

heart.

 

In this liminal space

my heart is in retreat

walled in by grief

slowly inching out

with anger

bitterness

cynicism

and so much hurt.

 

So you take my heart

and remake it

into something new

as you remove impurities

that defile.

 

In your own hands

you reshape

the very center of me

pushing

prodding

kneading

making

into something better

newer

stronger

more resilient

and closer

to you.
