Someone less than half my age made me realize one of life’s important lessons.
The year was 2016, and I was in a rehabilitation facility re-learning to walk after being hit by a car. It was a terrible accident, and it is a miracle I’m here today.
At the time, my husband and Facebook were my lifelines. I would post each day musings, accomplishments, and thoughts. Quite a few people were following my journey, including someone I went to high school with … and his son.
His son was having a hard time at school but watching my tenacity and my relentlessly cup-half-overflowing attitude as it unfolded on Facebook, he was encouraged to follow his dreams and be his authentic self.
When I learned that by just being me I had inspired someone else to be true to themselves, I realized that all the work I had done to be that person, to own my me-ness and fearlessly share my spark with the world (rather than hide it), wasn’t just for me. It was for all who came across my path, too.
When you own your light, you give others the permission to own their light, as well.
So, keep on shining, the world needs your light.
