WHAT DON’T I DESERVE?

COUNTERPOINT to yesterday’s post entitled, “How Much Do I Deserve,” I though today’s post should be on what we don’t deserve. What we don’t deserve is what much of today’s world is desperately trying to serve everyone: Pre-COVID crowds and World War III. It all gets down to those two great illusions for which everyone is supposed to be competing: money and power. With the general acceptance of this long established, constantly resurfacing axiom, comes the increasingly inhumanity that seems to be seizing the world in it’s steel, increasingly digital grip, and a seemingly universal move towards the inhumane. What don’t we as humans deserve? As if the above weren’t enough, there’s the litany of consequences that come with the worship of money and power. That includes death by inconsequence, raising the equally age-old question as to what any one person’s life is worth, especially if money and power are the currency of human life.

If I sound like I’m once again standing on my soapbox, expounding as if my life depended on it, well, you’ve got it right: I am standing up and expounding because I increasingly feel like my own life may indeed depend on it. I’m often asked, if life isn’t all about the pursuit of money and power, what is it all about? What’s left, as if in asking “what’s left?” I’m already implying that everything else is at most second best. If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my lifetime, it’s that it’s the journey, not just the result, during which one helps others’ journeys into humanism and on to naturalism that make life satisfying and worthwhile, a topic I explore deeply in THE EDGE OF MADNESS (Aignos 2020) by Raymond Gaynor — https://www.amazon.com/dp/0999693859.

Writing THE EDGE OF MADNESS was, in fact, my literary (as opposed to soapbox oratorical), that, as the sequel to TOTAL MELTDOWN (Borgo/Wildside 2009) by myself and William Maltese — https://www.amazon.com/dp/1434403556 — appeal to readers to think carefully about not just what we deserve, but what we definitely don’t deserve. On the other hand, if you just want a “hold onto your reading chair” thriller ride, consider QUANTUM DEATH (Savant 2016) by myself and A. G. Hayes — https://www.amazon.com/dp/0996325530.
