Year in review + what's next!

2022 was such a big year for me as an author because I managed to publish FOUR books (Rent Girl, Little Deaths, Batter My Heart, and The Other Woman) while working a full-time job and one of my books (Little Deaths) ended up as a #2 "best-seller" in the Kindle store when I put it up for free!

I have so many stories I'm excited to write next. I have a fantasy romance planned, another family gothic in the vein of Quid Pro Quo and Little Deaths, and a spin-off book to the Horrorscape series about Gavin's younger brother, Luca, called Wildscape.

Historically, I've not had the healthiest relationship to my writing. I've always said I'm my own worst critic and this remains true. I'm also a workaholic and push myself way too hard, sometimes at the cost of my mental and physical well being. My goal going forward is to be kinder to myself while still writing the stories I want to write, and to give myself breaks if I need/want them.

As a reviewer, I also want to try to focus more on indie works this year because I want to support other authors the way people support me. Being an indie is hard and the little things that can be easy to take for granted-- a Facebook recommendation, a quick review-- matter so much more. I've already found several new authors whose works have blown me away. I can't wait to find more.

Anyway, here's to the new year. I know I'm very lucky to have the platform and the audience that I have, and I feel grateful for it every day. Let's make the next year an even better one than this. I hope all your resolutions and wishes will be coming true.

Cheers, everyone. <3

Clarice Happy New Year! Glad to hear you are taking care of yourself! If you want some suggestions on indie authors I have a few:

Monique Edenwood: Dark romance writer, currently has 6 books out in her Black Oak Series and is coming out with a new book called "Hunger".

H.L. MacFarlane: Dark fantasy writer, I love her book "Invisible Monsters".

Kathryn Ann Kingsley: Dark fantasy and paranormal romance writer, I love her Harrow Faire series! It's very original, it focuses on a haunted circus. I'm usually not into spooky stories, but it was really well done.

Also yes yes YES love dark romance recommendations. Kathryn Ann Kingsley has been on my radar for a while but I've never heard of the other two! Thank you for the suggestions! <3

The Black Oak series had one of my favorite villain love interests of all time, Sebastian Gravier. He doesn't come into his own until like book 3, but when he does, it's kind of amazing. Lot's of cheating going on this series. The FMC Jess pretty much bounces between her husband Jack, his ex-best friend Cameron, and the series villain Sebastian. I read this series mostly for the last guy though. I usually don't crush so hard on MMCs, but he is just ahhhhhhhh! There is this one scene with Jess and him in the 5th book with a hall of mirrors that just screams Phantom of the Opera!

OMG that sounds so dramatic and gothic and extra that I think I need it. Also you had me at villain love interest lol! I don't usually like books with cheating but I'm reading one right now, called SEA OF RUIN, where it's a focal plot point and also has two hot and villainous love interests, so maybe I only hate cheating love interests that are done badly. I'll definitely give this one a shot. ;)

She is also really nice when engaging with her readers on FB.
TBH, Jack, Jess's husband, I don't feel so bad for (he's kind of a shallow jerk). Like I don't feel bad for Jess cheating on him with the other guys. I do feel bad for him for some other stuff that happens to him (I won't ruin it), but not for Jess cheating on him. I got to a point in that series where I could that see he had no chemistry with Jess and didn't really care about her as a person, but more so who he wants her to be, a dutiful, submissive wife ect.

Oooh, I love a book filled with love-to-hate-them characters (case in point: Zodiac Academy lol). That sounds so good.
