Mel, Sam, Elise, Revy the dog, and I decided to head up to the Chocorua area to knock out some trails. Though I don’t think Revy had a choice in the matter :P. Mel and I wanted to get Bee Line and Bolles, so we spent the first several quick miles up Champney Falls Trail together. This trail is always quite nice because it’s not too steep but packs in some good elevation gain.

We opted not to see the falls because we had to be back to Mel and Sam’s for a party later that night. We reached the junction with the Piper Trail in about an hour and a half, passing many people all the way up. Mel and I broke off at this point and we decided to bypass the summit of Chocorua in the interests of time.

The descent down toward Bee Line Trail was gorgeous and steep, and we often found ourselves on hands and knees to navigate the slippery slab section.

Beeline was a nice, quiet, trail with pretty good footing for most of the way. It wasn’t super steep, but it did descend a bit into the valley where it met up with Bolles.

Bolles was probably the most annoying part of the day, as we had to navigate through some wet stuff, blowdowns, and climb up steeply several hundred feet back up from the valley to then make out way back down. We surmised that the last part of the trail was a ski trail in the winter given the ski blazes.

The trails that we knocked out were nice, but nothing to write home over and I probably won’t find myself back on them except maybe to check them out during ski season. Nonetheless, we had an enjoyable day in the hills!

Total Time: 4 hrs 10

Total Distance: ~9.37 miles
