Tis the season for everyone to be overwhelmed. There is just so much to do.

Where I live there is storm preparation. You want the yard tidy and outside items stowed so they are not picked up by winter winds. A dead tree leaning toward the house needs to be taken down.

I need to shop not only for particular foods but also for gifts. We have a lot of birthdays, and an anniversary too, in addition to holiday gifts to get.

So in the midst of all this, I am doing the final preparation before sending my novel back to the editor for formatting. I am doing a read-through and proofing. I am finding typos and missing words even though this book has gone through so much editing, they escaped.

Writing Tool: ProofingSit quietly with no distractions, especially tv, and read it. Keep a pad of paper and pen at hand to write down the page number and sentence, circle the error, and write the correction underneath. Do the above but on your computer. Keep open the document on one side and a new page to type on.If something strikes you as off, read it aloud.It is always better to have a 2nd proofer.Life Tool: ListsMake a list of things to do around and outside the home and put it on the house bulletin board or the fridge.Make a list of each person you are gifting and the type of gift (Birthday, Anniversary, and Holiday). Put it where you have constant access to it. When you have achieved your list, buy some gifts for unexpected holiday guests. Also, don’t forget the newspaper and mail persons!
