其 具 直 真

Since Song script standardization I think(renwei认为) this zhen真true extends the idea of zhi直straight,upright. in zhi直 the cross on top represents a ray of light, a straight and true line. I had thought the two dots beneath 真zhen were hands, evoking the other similar looking character ju具 tool. Thus the ideas that careful examination mu目eyeball and rectitude直 and common-working (two hands because two people) characterize truth and distinguish it from rectitude

Originally zhi was a ding examined carefully; but song script standardized characters and i see this character series as standardized as above described.
