Book Review: Kingdom of Bones by James Rollins

Published in 2022. Thriller. A United Nations team of doctors has uncovered an illness in the Congo caused by a yet unknown virus. The U.S. sends in Sigma Force to help them uncover the virus, contain it, and find a cure, if they can. What they uncover is a plot by the CEO of a large corporation to hide it from the world, so the corporation can continue its exploitation of natural resources of the Congo. In a race against time, Sigma Force enlists the help of Tucker and his military dog, Kane, to investigate the corporation, while other members seek the cure. Tucker finds himself outnumbered and outgunned when he finds the secret hideout of the corporation where they are hiding patients of the illness from the world. Kane helps him level out the playing field, as they rescue the U.N. doctors held hostage. Meanwhile, Gray and Kowalski head into the jungle to find the origins of the virus and a possible cure.

Lots of action in this book. In addition, the author teaches us about viruses. In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, he felt the need to explain viruses and how dangerous they could be. The fear of virologists is that one virus that no one can cure. Covid-19 came close. The next one could be even worse, and we should be prepared. But with all the backlash against Covid restrictions, will we be able to handle it?
