Words...
Why do some people write? Don't believe the marketing angle that goes 'to share a piece of art or meaning with the world'. Some people write because they don't know how else to express what they are seeing or feeling. Like standing still in the shower, a hand on the wall, and not actually thinking about anything at all. Some people write because they spontaneously feel the urge to do so, and can't explain it. Like a sudden craving to eat a meal they saw someone else have earlier, or a need to follow ocd-style steps to prevent a global catastrophe. Some people write because they are enslaved to the very real possibility that the stories in their hearts and heads might go to someone who might not write it at all. Much like consigning age-old knowledge to the fire, at which point it gets lost for all eternity. *shudder* Finally, some people write because when they don't, and they later forget what it is they had in mind, they feel a haunting emptiness inside them that simply won't go away. Like a void into which they threw a pebble and are yet to hear a sound. Like harbouring regret at what might've have been if they'd asked out on a date someone they really liked. Like having a sense of not belonging anywhere in the world, not even to oneself. In the battle between writers and words, one way or another words always claim the flags of conquer. Words... They know their worth, they realize their power. Humans are mortal, but Meaning is eternal. Flesh perishes, but Ideas reincarnate. Writers die, but Words sing forever.
