Book Talk: two kinds of reviewers

Recently, I came across a review on the charity anthology I am in:

“Never pay for anything written by S.E. Isaac. Her inclusion should have placed this anthology on KU.“

I was flabbergasted, hurt, and angry by the review. It was a 1-star and only mentioned me. I took a few minutes to digest my thoughts and came back to the review. The reviewer mentioned NOTHING about any of the stories (not even mine). All she did was bash me and mention KU which is a reader subscription, which confused me to no end. Clearly, this reviewer wanted to hurt me (and the 400+ other authors she has reviewed and bashed in the past on Amazon). How unfair and unkind of this person on multiple levels. The “Forever in My Heart” is a charity anthology with ALL proceeds going to the American Heart Association, which is a GREAT organization. Because of this woman’s spitefulness, the anthology now has a 3-star rating average with one being her 1-star and another being a 5-star. If a person doesn’t like my book and wants to leave a review, I welcome it. As an author, I want to grow in my trade. Tell me what you liked, didn’t like, what you thought could be worked on, etc. Don’t just call me out and trash my name. It doesn’t help me at all and it makes you look like a troll in the romance author community because word spreads like wildfire. I have narrowed down the person and all I can say to her is: I hope you wake up one day and realize how hurtful words can be to a person’s character and business. Then, there are other unexpected reviews that hit you like a ton of bricks… and melt your heart like this one:

I didn’t think anyone read my paranormal romance book, Shifter’s Delight, (LOL) so this was a pleasant surprise! And, to know that a secondary character, who I personally enjoyed writing, was loved by a reader made my heart happy too. So… Book 2 has officially gone into the making.
