Should you stick to one genre when writing? I’ve realised that I love writing about all kinds of things. I know I’ll never make the best seller list and I’m surprisingly okay with that. My favourite genre is historical fiction, maybe I long for simpler times?
The modern world gives you all the mod cons to write with ease, historical, well that’s where the fun lies. You simply can’t put a character in a fast car, so how does he/she get from A to B? How long does it take for your horse to get you where you need to go? These are the things I love.
Then I get an idea in my head about something completely different and I run with it. If nobody ever reads them, I don’t mind. As long as I can get it out of my head and onto paper that’s the main thing. I’ve been lucky so far as the people who have read my books have really gotten onboard with the characters, I like that they have invested in these fictional beings. Writing, like most forms of creativity, should be fun and stimulating otherwise it would become a chore. I’ve got a million and one tales running around my mind and they’re none of them the same genre.
