Picky. Picky.

OMG, it's so frustrating. I'm going through one of those annoying picky phases where every book blurb I read has me wrinkling my nose in distaste.
I feel like the man drifting out at sea in a boat - surrounded by water but nary a drop to drink. Book offerings are the equivalent of that - there are thousands upon thousands. And more everyday. Glossy covers. Endorsements from my fave authors. Recommendations from both GR and Amazon clog my email on a daily, sometimes hourly basis... and yet, I feel like it has been forever since I read a book blurb and thought - if I don't read you right now, my life is over.

I want the magic back. I want to find an author who has a vast back catalogue and I want to be swept up by words and worlds.
And I keep looking, I swear. But I just seem to be in an annoying funk. I know it will disappear... eventually. I'll read a book and it will be like I'm able to breathe again.

I don't get people who don't read. And I suspect people who don't read pity those of us who do for wasting our time and money when we could be doing more important things. I have no earthly idea what those things might be because reading for me, it's not just an escape. I get to visit fantastical worlds. Meet awesome characters who become my friends, my family. I go on epic adventures. Save kingdoms. Open a B&B. Get swept off my feet by the love of my life. Hate on a villain and have the cathartic moment when they get their just desserts.

I guess that's why I suffer from picky funks - because I have such high expectations when it comes to the books I read. My time is valuable and I'm not willing to settle for TSTL heroines, Alpha-hole Heroes, or stories that don't sweep me up and demand my attention until those annoying two little words appear - the end.

I'm not looking for recommendations here. Trust me. I read all your reviews (and love them all for their insight) Sometimes you just have to lean into a funk, and no doubt sooner or later a sparkling five star read will fall into my lap and once more life will be magical and there will be a plethora of books that spark my interest following in its wake. Fingers crossed it will be soon.

Happy five star reading to all.

message 1: by Christine (new)

Christine I am amazed by all the people that talk about TV shows and/or movies they watch. I would rather spend my time reading! I prefer engaging my imagination than just watching commercials interrupting what someone else thinks is entertaining.

message 2: by Rosemary (new)

Rosemary Kipley I am currently reading the "Blue Moon" series by Lucy Score. Lots of laughs in book 1 & 2. I also enjoy rereading the "Pride" series by Shelly Laurenston and books by RJ Blain/Susan Copperfield. I have been know to reread multiple times if I really like the book.
