One of the most common tropes in fantasy fiction is the development of specialised schools of magic. This idea occurs so frequently that one might think that it is simply a staple of the genre that has become widely accepted over the years. That might well be so. However, you can also make an argument that the development of specialised schools of magic is perfectly logical.
