A lovely New Year’s sentiment from a vintage book I received for Christmas, “Little Pictures of Japan,” full of translated Hokku poetry and illustrations meant for children. From the foreword, “The first purpose of the book is to awaken in children an appreciation for beauty, a real tenderness for it. … And I strongly recommend them for gown people also, since it was for adults that they were first written.”
I like that.
