WARS AND RUMORS OF WARS…

IF there’s one thing that’s totally unscientific, it’s human behavior. Especially “leadership” behavior. I’ve seen and experienced it first hand “on the set” (see https://www.netflix.com/title/80990849 and you’ll wonder how ANY movie of value could have been made) and watched in awe and horror during the thirteen days of the Cuban Missile Crisis (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yfIo...). So, what’s new with President Putin and the manufactured Ukraine Crises. Nothing. Exceptional power seems to bring out the worst in human behavior second only to exceptional money, both illusions created by humans and used to manipulate humans. I think of it as political “trafficking.”

Am I scared? Again, human behavior is distinctly unscientific, meaning not consistently repeatable even under the similar conditions, so, yes. And I’m surprised at how callous “leadership” behavior can become when concentrated in the hands of a few. I shouldn’t be. There’s the famous post WWII psychological experiments, Zimbardo’s “Stanford Prison Experiment,” Millgram’s Experiment on Obedience to Authority, the BBC’s Prison Study, Abu Ghraib (more than a study) and Jones’ “Third Wave Experiment,” and in my opinion, they all point to one common conclusion that may be scientific (i.e. repeatable): Creating a difference in power ultimately results in aberrant human behavior; the greater the perceived difference, the more potentially aberrant the behavior of the perceived powerful and powerless. The problem, of course, is in the expression of that behavior and it’s results on the people involved as well as those observing, which seem individually unpredictable. This seems to me to be true whether it’s a prison, traditional classroom, rape, vying political parties or a dictatorial government.

What to do about this? Read THE EDGE OF MADNESS (Aignos 2020) by Raymond Gaynor, study Bonobo behavior and believe in the power of individual empathy, curiosity, knowledge and wisdom. That’s my take. And regard authoritarian leadership and its implications with utmost care. As for the Ukraine Crises, go figure. I can’t, and given the vagarity of human existence, I don’t particularly want to.

The Edge of Madness

The Amazon genre bestseller, THE EDGE OF MADNESS, is available in printed, digital and audiobook formats, and has been purchased for manga, animation and/or cinematic treatment by K. Simmons Productions.
