My Brain Blog.

It is responsible for our thinking, behaviour, rationality and emotional processes. Used in many examples of evolution, the brain is a physical organ that has mystified and astounded. In early pre 1960 times, brain cells were considered to be limited and fixed in number. Recently research has proved neuroplasticity to be a viable method of replacing and extending the brain’s capability to learn and repair lost functionality.

Recovering from a stroke is one example whereby knowledge of neuroplasticity is such a useful tool. It can explore the mind’s capability for repair and the stimulation for healthy growth of new neurons.

The brain as an organ has long provoked possibility and intrigue, from interpretations of scenarios in that of science fiction, literature, film and even the very real motivating instances of medical knowledge and advancement.

A brain is a very unusually complex organ. Regulating our bodies and controlling both basic and more complex needs or impulses, the brain has a role in memory, hunger, speech, movements, functionality of other organs, speech, vision and even breathing. When we are born, the average brain weighs in at about one pound but this increases to roughly three pounds by the time we get to adulthood.

I have been thinking about how the brain can actually improve in health and capacity, similar to that of when stimulating the physical body with exercise. There are methods which can be employed to help with positive brain action and this can subsequently facilitate new brain activity. Physical exercise is a good way to stimulate BDNF, which is a protein that can be produced in nerve cells. It is a vital energy source that can be implemented to promote healthy brain function and stimulate new neurons.

Another important brain activity is to increase the learning capacity of the brain by setting goals of being able to attain new knowledge. Take the colours of the rainbow or naming the seven continents. Then there are brain training games, jigsaw puzzles, number objective techniques and memory pursuits. Mental and physical activities such as table tennis, snooker, and even roshambo, which is commonly called rock, paper, scissors, can all help to improve different areas of brain skills.

My Brain Blog has been a bit of a revelation for me in terms of individual influence and possibility. There is so much that we can do to positively inspire and instigate improvements in brain functionality. As the brain is an organ which can determine how we feel and what we can go on to do, it makes sense to look out for it and after it, in the best way that we can.
