This week:
$150,000 in 12 days6-figure side-hustleForget About Goals$50k/month in 5 hours/weekThink about your heroHow to build Instagram, Shopify, Reddit100+ remote jobs at ShopifyRandom PizzaMomentos + Finance ReportHeads up for Tuesday$150,000 in 12 daysI don’t often mention Kickstarter projects in this newsletter because it’s mostly physical products on there and IMO that’s a very advanced type of online business (Level 5).
But there are lots of great takeaways from this portable blackout curtain that raised $120,000 in only 12 days
The two founders – Mark and Hannah – quit their 9-to-5 jobs in February and shared their story on Reddit a few days ago.
Three things that stood out to me:
First, they did a TON of work before actually launching the product, a good reminder that success is largely determined by what you do when nobody’s watching.
Second, before getting too deep they “spoke to so many helpful Kickstarter entrepreneurs who’ve been through this before.”
Before diving into a project yourself, find people who have already done it and ask what they’d do differently if they were starting over. Learn from their mistakes to avoid making your own.
Third, Mark and Hannah hired quite a bit of help:
A firm to build out the Kickstarter page and project manageA video production company for the Kickstarter videoA social media managerMore than 500,000 projects have been launched on Kickstarter and many of them hire help. You could earn a decent income providing one of the above services or similar.
6-figure side-hustleAn article about Steph Smith: Create 6-figures and 3,000 customers by NOT quitting your job
Steph works for The Hustle and has leveraged her day job to build a big audience and successful side-business of her own
That’s a great example of how the right job – especially the right remote job – can be a shortcut to entrepreneurial success.
Another example: say you want to start an ecommerce store. Which path is more likely to lead to success…
Spend loads of time and money starting your own store from scratch and hope to figure everything out as you go.Land a job working for an established store, get paid to learn the ropes, then go start your own ecomm biz.
If you struggle to reach your goals, have a read of this article from James Clear.
It’s an excerpt from his excellent book, Atomic Habits.

$50k/month in 5 hours/weekCheck out LeadCookie.com.
You sign up for their service and they do outreach on your behalf to generate leads for your business.
Here’s an interview with Jake Jorgovan, the founder of the company, who says he started it “for virtually no costs” and runs the whole thing using no-code tools (Airtable, Zapier, etc.)
Now it generates $40-60k in revenue each month while he spends 4-6 hours per week on the business
Here’s how he found his first customers:
I reached out to a ton of people i knew and sold 15 customers in the first two weeks by going to people in my network.
Are there people in your network who might pay for your product or service? Or might they know someone who would?
Think about your heroFrom the book Mindset by Carol Dweck:
Think about your hero. Do you think of this person as someone with extraordinary abilities who achieved with little effort? Now go find out the truth. Find out the tremendous effort that went into their accomplishment—and admire them more.

How to build Instagram, Shopify, RedditNo-code tool Bubble has a series of articles showing how you can use their app to build clones of successful startups.
Reminded me of Jesus Vargas, who started a low-code development agency in March 2020 and earned $150,000 his first year
And here are 7 more ways to find a remote job.
Random PizzaBack to no-code for a minute, here’s a fascinating no-code business called Random Pizza
It’s a subscription service where you pay $20/month and…
You set your preferences on what times we can deliver and where, whether that be home, work, or your mom’s basement. Any given month 2 pizzas delivered, you guessed it, randomly.
Checking a couple of interviews with the founder, it doesn’t sound like Random Pizza is financially successful – financial success isn’t exactly the point of his projects – but I love the concept of “Serendipity as a Service.”
What else could you do this with?
Flowers, notes of appreciation, maybe a barbershop quartet?
My latest batch of personal ramblings are on Patreon.
And here’s how much my business earned and spent last month
AppSumo is a software deals website that always proves popular when I mention their deals in this newsletter.
I’ve grabbed a few ridiculous deals on there myself over the years, including one for $49 lifetime that replaced a $21/month software I was using. So far that one deal has saved me almost $500
From Tuesday to Friday next week (July 13-16) AppSumo are having their first annual Sumo Day.
Keep an eye out for lots of great deals during those 72 hours.
