As an image consultant, I am often asked by people who they should position and carry themselves in the marketplace. Of course dressing for success is one of the first steps, dressing for the role you want to play and fulfill in society.

That means different things to different people. Thus you really need to identify your target audience and market niche.

If you're an actor, what roles do you want to be cast for? The reality is stereotypes are pervasive and often snap judgments are made based on your outward appearance.

I'm no prude by any means, quite the contrary. But I do know the importance of dressing for success based upon your goals and aspirations.

Dressing for success means playing the role well inwardly and outwardly - achieve a place of congruence in which you have wholeheartedly bought into and heavily invested yourself in who you want to be.

As an image consultant I am often reminded of the words of Bill Crosby, "I don't know the secret to success, but the way to failure is trying to please everybody."
