When writing a novel, it's useful, at some point, to consider what themes have emerged in your story. I say emerged because I think in most cases writers don't start out with a strong idea of the thematic intent of their work. They may consider what type of story they want to write, what the inciting event, main event, or denouement will be, or have a strong idea about character or world, but theme? Not so much.
