Where’s John Prine At?

Topping the list of Donald Glenn’s Songs for Sunday this week is John Prine, who we lost last year to Covid-19. That’s so sad, but the good news is John left behind a treasure trove of tunes that I’m sure will keep his memory fresh for decades to come. At the top of the list this week is a tune called In a Town this Size. It’s one of those little John Prine gems that I often play at gigs and jams, although my version is a little different than his. The other tune I picked out is When I Get to Heaven because I’m sure that’s where John is right now looking down on us all with a cigarette in one hand, a stiff drink in the other and smirk on face that says the folly of the human condition is just so damned amusing.

Here’s to you John. Try not to give God too hard a time up there. And to the rest of you, stay safe and enjoy the list.
