Leif forced himself to take several deep breaths lest he maul the woman when she let him in. He heard objects being moved away from the door before she lifted the bar and the bolt slid back to its home. She pulled the door open and peered out. Leif saw the knife in her hand. She dropped it when she knew he was alone and threw open the door wide then stepped back. His intention not to maul her fell away the moment he could reach her. He pulled her into his arms, and he felt her come willingly. She wrapped her arms around his neck as he lifted her off her feet. Their mouths came together with a hunger born of fear and longing. The kiss was not gentle but fed a simmer that had started for Sigrid long before it did for Leif.
