Amazon best-selling author Cathy MacRae enjoys weaving tales of romance in the Highland mists. Her stories feature strong heroes and feisty heroines in pursuit of their happy-ever-afters in medieval Scotland.

When not writing, Cathy can be found curled up in a chair with a book or enjoying the outdoors with her corgis and maybe a German Shepherd or two. A member of RWA, NTRWA, and Celtic Hearts Romance Writers, she is currently working on another Highland romance novel and planning her next trip to Scotland.

Hi, Cathy! Thanks for your questions!

There are always scenes that I love, but don't really move the story forward. The only scene my critique partners have requested I put back in was from Highland Escape. It was the wedding night and involved a tub... :-) (It's under consideration)

As for selecting character names, I pay particular attention to name meanings and how easy/difficult they are to pronounce. I'm not a fan of names I can't pronounce :-) And I strive to keep the names accurate within the time period I'm writing.(less)

I may have written a character into an unrealistic position, acting in a way not consistent with his personality. Or, perhaps I've lost the original story thread. Usually I can straighten these instances out in short order. If not, I might write a different scene and merge the two- just keep words flowing. I can also take a break and do something else creative for a bit. Cooking, work on my website, write up a blog. Challenge another part of my brain for a bit.(less)

Her snippet is from her book, The Lady of the Forest, a book I think has a bit of a Robin Hood flair :-)

I hope you enjoy following along! Commenting on the posts enters you in a drawing for an ecopy of each book presented in this section of Medieval Monday!

“I pledge my love to ye, and everything I possess. I promise ye the first bite of my meat and the first sip from my cup. I pledge yer name will always be the name I cry aloud in the dead of night. I promise to honor ye above all others. The love we forge will be never-ending and we will remain, forevermore, equals in our marriage. This is my wedding vow to ye.”
Cathy MacRae, The Highlander's Reluctant Bride

“If he were to wait for her to ask for his protection, he would be waiting until the whole of Scotland sank into the seas.”
Cathy MacRae, Highland Escape: Book 1 in the Hardy Heroines series

“Sometimes a father’s protection does not make sense. ’Tis how they tell us they love us.”
