silencieuse.

Hanneke Beautiful poem, Jeanne! I can almost see you walking outside near the sea and taking in the flight of the birds and the waves coming ashore.

J.C. Thank you, Hanneke! I have been wanting to write to you and have been so very busy. I was hoping to write later (and still am!).
Jeanne.

Ilse Thank you for writing (and posting) this beautiful, musical poem, Jeanne. Two brothers of my mother were fervent bird watchers, and so since my youth I have a soft spot for herons, as they had large photographs of herons on the walls in their house. Your poem reminded me of the heron in Penelope Fitzgerald's 'The Bookshop'...fortunately we live close to a knot of rivers where we can spot herons almost every day :)

J.C. Thank you, Ilse, for such lovely comments on the poem.
It's to be treasured, that you can see herons where you live. They have such an exquisite, mystical grace. And I love your expression 'a knot of rivers' - I will have to stop myself plagiarising it!

Ilse I love their grace, Jeanne. And to give credit where credit is due, I paraphrased the words from our town's most famous writer, Felix Timmermans, who wrote about the town “where the three meandering Netes tie a silver knot.” A commemorative stone is to be found at exactly that place, in the grass, from where one can spot the herons :).

J.C. Thank you, Ilse, lovely to hear about the "three meandering Netes"!
